If you wish to make closer acquaintance with Aabenraa, it is a good idea to follow the watchmen when they on Wednesday evenings make their traditional rounds through the old streets.
Hear them sing the watchman's song, written by Danish hymn writer Thomas Kingo; listen to them telling the dramatic history of the town, and their entertaining remarks about many of the interesting things you will see. The watchmen are dressed in traditional uniform and carry a lamp and morning star, a wooden staff with iron spikes on the top.
